A Bit About Therapy

Many think that therapy involves talking to an empathetic person who will eventually point out that the time is up, and that she will see you next week.  Therapy is so much more than venting.  Venting is wonderful and definitely needed and useful.  It may give us relief.  However, often, the situation does not change because of venting and, over time, we feel overwhelmed again as we tread the same waters. The final goal of therapy is, after all, not to need therapy.

Therapy is about change.  It involves identifying an issue which is upsetting us and is having a negative impact on our life in some form.  It involves determining a goal to be reached and the measurable steps which will help us reach that goal.  Progress should be evident and, whenever possible, measurable.  Therapy is movement, is action, not endless talking.

I believe healing and personal balance are possible. I like to support the people I serve reach wellness, balance and a fulfilling life while holding the role of a copilot.  The pilot, the person in control, will always be you.

What I offer

As a Virginia licensed PSYPACT member, I am authorized to practice telepsychology, aka teletherapy or remote psychotherapy, with people residing in the following States: AL, AR, AZ, CO, CNMI, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME,  MD,  MI,  MN,  MO,  NE,  NV,  NH,  NJ,  NC,  OH, OK, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, WY.

I provide services to individuals (14 years of age and older), couples, and families.

Some people may feel intimidated by the idea of having therapy without meeting the therapist in person. Please: don't be.  As many other clinicians, I have successfully provided teletherapy since the very beginning of the Covid pandemic in March 2020.  You will be able to benefit from therapy without having to also deal with having to physically get ready, commute to an office, and having to go back home again.  You will be able to commit to really only therapy time.

I rely on evidence-based interventions while tailoring services to specific personal needs.  I am certified by EMDRIA in EMDR.  I am also trained and practice, among others, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family System.

I can help you overcome trauma (recent single events such as car accidents, surgeries, etc.; and complex, developmental trauma), depression, anxiety, and OCD.   I can also help you improve your ability to develop healthy relationships, strengthen your parenting, and improve your overall functioning.  I can resource you with coping skills to deal with your stressors.
